John Davis Performs Lost Music Of Early New Orleans from Dubway Recordings

As part of the French Quarter Festival, pianist and curator John Davis will perform a full program of rare early New Orleans piano music at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Decades before jazz and before recording technology, these compositions fused African, Afro-Caribbean, Creole, and European traditions, surviving mostly as fragile sheet music until now.

Davis spent extensive time at Dubway Studios with engineer Elijah Sheets refining 26 solo piano pieces in post-production. These recordings will form the centerpiece of this upcoming performance and exhibition.
