Tracking at Dubway this month, Steven Bernstein’s infamous New York City jazz ensembleSex Mob. Band members Tony Scherr (bass),Briggan Krauss (sax), Kenny Wollesen (drums), andSteven Bernstein (slide trumpet) were in Dubway’s Yellow Room laying down tracks for a new album in the works. Old friend and multi-instrumentalist Doug Wieselman happened to be around the studio and was recruited to play clarinet. Mike Judeh recorded the session.
In Dubway’s Yellow Room this month, Breakthru Radio hosted a live performance and interview with the multi-award winning Australian artist Sarah Blasko. Ms. Blasko is currently on a promotional tour in America supporting her new release As Day Follows Night. Dubway engineer Stephen Schappler tracked the session.
Composer Rob Simonsen (500 Days of Summer, Little Miss Sunshine, Capote) was in tracking underscore for the new feature documentary film LOVE ETC. by director Jill Andresevic (I Heart New York, The Lazarus Effect). The film documents five intimate journeys of modern love over the course of one year in New York City. From teenage romance to a decades-long marriage, from newlyweds to a divorced dad navigating the dating scene. The session was recorded by Keith Rigling.
Saturday Night Live cast members Kristen Wiig and Will Forte recorded a Celebrity Playlist Podcast foriTunes this month with Dubway Studios engineer Keith Rigling during their Macgruber promotional tour. The Macgruber film stars laughed it up while discussing their favorite music. Look for the podcast September 14th. John Thayer assisted.
Two-time Tony Award winning actress/singer Christine Ebersole was in Dubway tracking songs for her new album release simply titled Christine Ebersole sings Noel Coward. The fourteen-track CD is set to be released by Sh-K-Boom Records and was produced by Ms. Ebersole’s long time musical director Larry Yurman. Dubway engineer Chris Abell recorded the sessions.
Our friends over at Duotone brought in their new film project. A wonderful series of short films titled “Hardest Working (insert job title here) in America” directed by legendary film maker Albert Maysles. The series offers an inside look at regular people around the country, hard-working Americans who go to work everyday and are good at what they do. Some of the “Hardest Working People” include a Cattle Rancher, Web Entrepreneur, Baker, and a Coach. Keith Rigling tracked the underscore sessions.
New York artist Jeff Gordon has been in Dubway with his new multiple-medium project of art, spoken-word, song, and sound. The Andy Warhol themed project includes Bob Dylan, Path Soong, Ultra Violet, Chris Makos, Patti Smith, and Lawrence Weiner, among others, and is set to be released on Sony Music later this year. Chris Camilleri recorded the sessions.
Mountain music artist Hope Nunnery has a new project in the works and was in Dubway’s Yellow Room with her band tracking new songs. Danny Lawrence tracked the session.
DJ Scott Hardkiss was back in Dubway’s Blue Room mixing with Chief Engineer Jason Marcucci for a string of TV ads.
Legendary songwriter Chip Taylor (“Wild Thing,” “Angel of the Morning”) was back at Dubway again, this time around to track to tape on Dubway’s vintage Studer 2-inch. John Platania (Van Morrison) and Seth Farber(Lucinda Williams, Billy Joel, John Prine) joined as back-up. Mike Judeh engineered.
Liz Swados was back working on her children’s music series with Dubway engineer Chris Abell, and local New York singer-songwriter Abby Bernstein has been in tracking demos with Dubway engineer Chris Camilleri. Nick Jr.’s animated children’s television show Bubble Guppies is still in full production, now on it’s second season. Season one episodes are slated to began airing in 2011. The sessions have been engineered by Stephen Schappler.
